Saddle up: The perfect seat

It’s a common assumption that if you spend money on a good bike, you’ll also get a comfy seat. It’s not that easy. Buying a bike seat is a bit like buying a pair of sneakers—you want to buy a seat that fits your body and your riding style.

If you’re racing, you want the narrowest and lightest seat out there. Racing models are lightly padded with a minimal design. As for the right fit, the width of the back of the seat should match your sit bones.

Commuters, off-roaders, and fitness fanatics want something anatomically or ergonomically designed with medium padding and a narrow nose. Again fit-wise, the width of the seat should match your sit bones.

For a recreational rider, a cruiser saddle is perfect. The wide seat offers support and the plush padding usually has springs or gel pads.

Finding the right seat might be a pain-in-the-butt, well…you see where we’re going here.
